Dear all,
I am a french currently a web dev, 3 years freelance experience in Javascript. I have a computer engineer background but stop working in computer field for over 16 years.
My first engineer’s experience (20 years ago) was 3 years in BI (BO) for a company. So I am not young anymore (46) but kind of junior as I am back to computer science not a long time ago.
Anyways a school friend (who is a senior SAP consultant) recommended me to come to SAP. I have looked around on the SAP learning platform, started a course on ABAP but unfortunately did not really like the language. Some other things grabbed my attention though:
– Backend Developer, SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, which I can work with Node.js/JavaScript (but is it enough to get a position without ABAP knowledge? )
– SAP Analytics Cloud, Datasphere (as I was in BI long time ago)
– SAP FICO to become a functional consultant
Thing is that I don’t absolutely want to stay in coding, I am pretty sure I would enjoy a functional type of position but I have no experience in finance (or any other module). I could here in France study a short degree like “Professional Certificate in Accounting and Tax Management”, get a accountant job for a year or two meanwhile learning to pass the SAP HANA FI certification, but will it be enough ? If so will you recommend instead to start with a tech position for some years than later move to functional ?
Many thanks for your help !
Sébastien
