Bill Of material (BOM)

Bill of Material (BOM)

What is Bill of Material (BOM) and its role?

A bill of material is a complete, formally structured list of the components that make up a product or assembly.

BOM can be single level and multi-level. For example, finished material would contain semi-finished materials as components which in turn would contain raw materials as components in next level.

Bill of Material having component number, description with quantity and unit measure.

There can be different alternative BOMs for a product depending upon the lot sizes, validity dates, and different production methods.

BOM is used in production planning for semi-finished and purchase planning for raw materials.

  • Use T code CS01 in SAP Easy Access

Enter Header Material and Plant, Select BOM Usage 1  Production

  • Enter the component that required to produce the product.

Quantity – Enter Material Quantity required

BOM Header

Tap on BOM Header to maintain the base quantity.

When we create more than 1 BOM of a product, it’s called Alternative BOM

When alternative BOM is more than 1 it’s called multiple BOM

BOM Status:

BOM Status should be 1 Active BOM which we ae going to use in transaction.

BOM Line Item

Select Item and select on item tab or double click on item.

Operation scrap refers to the expected material loss during a specific operation during production process.

When the material is a component, and is used as a part of an assembly and there is a loss when using that component.

Recursive BOM can be understood as the material that uses the same header material for its make. You can also take an example of Curd we need curd to make curd so this is perfect example of Recursive BOM.

BOM Configuration:

1.Define default value [ Base Quantity Header and BOM Status]

To define default base quantity of header and default BOM status

  1. Determine the BOM Explosion mode

To define default Explosion Mode for BOM Header

Enable BOM Validity calculation

 2. Define BOM Usage

Define the BOM usage as per user requirement in which area use want to use

3. Define BOM Status

BOM status define for BOM availability for Transaction in various area like costing, plan order, Sales order etc.

MohanMujumale_10-1728750497450.png

  1. Define Allowed material type for BOM item

To define Material type which we are going to use for BOM item in BOM usage 1 with respect to BOM header

BOM Like: FERT, HALB ETC.

BOM like: ROH, HALB RTC.

[ + Allowed, – Not Allowed]

BOM Reporting

T codes

CS11: Level by Level BOM Explosion

CS12: Multi Level BOM Explosion

CS13: Summarized BOM

CS14: BOM Comparison

CS15 : Where used material List

  • There might be the case wherein component material does not exist. For this, you need to create the material master for the component material before creating BOM.
  • Some users try to create the BOM again for the same Product, system gives warning message regarding “Alternative BOM2 is being created” and they tend to ignore the warning message and move forward and hence end up in creating similar alternative BOM 2 for same product. This unnecessary creates duplicate data.

Thankyou.
