My Journey Towards Becoming an SAP FICO Consultant

Hello SAP Community,

My name is Omar, and I’m writing from Morocco. I’m excited to share my journey towards becoming an SAP FICO consultant and to connect with others on a similar path.

My introduction to SAP began with the SAP Technology Professional Certificate program on Coursera. This course provided a solid foundation in enterprise environments, SAP solution design, and implementation. While completing the program, I began engaging with the SAP Community, and through those interactions, I discovered my strong interest in SAP FICO. My background in financial consulting and project management made it clear that this specialization would be a perfect fit.

I was particularly excited about the SAP Customer Success Academy program and believed my skills and the SAP Technology Professional Certificate would make me a strong candidate. I carefully prepared my application and submitted it with high hopes. I was eager to gain hands-on experience and learn from SAP experts. However, I was not selected for the program.

While I’m still exploring the reasons, I suspect my location may be a significant factor. The programs seem to be primarily based in Germany, Dubai, or Qatar, and not in Morocco. This experience has highlighted the challenges of accessing SAP opportunities in regions where SAP presence might be developing.

Despite this setback, I remain determined to pursue a career in SAP FICO. I’m now focusing on deepening my knowledge of SAP FICO and seeking alternative opportunities to gain hands-on experience. I’m particularly interested in:

  • Learning Resources: I’m actively researching quality online courses, books, and practice systems for SAP FICO.
  • Community Engagement: I’m committed to learning from experienced consultants and contributing to the SAP Community.
  • Location Challenges: I’m also exploring ways to overcome location barriers when applying for SAP programs and building a local SAP community presence in Africa, as I noticed there isn’t a dedicated board for Africa in the Location Groups.
  • Alternative Programs: I am looking for other programs similar to the SAP Customer Success Academy, or information on how to overcome location barriers when applying to such programs.

I believe in the power of community and collaboration. I’m eager to connect with anyone who can offer guidance, share their experiences, or provide insights on building a successful career in SAP FICO.

If you have any recommendations for learning resources, career advice, insights on building a local SAP community, or information regarding alternatives to the SAP customer success Academy, I would be grateful to hear from you.

Thank you for being a part of my journey!

Sincerely,
